What Is a Memory Foam Mattress?

Developed by NASA in 1966 for use in aircraft cushions, memory foam is a mouldable material that has become a staple of the mattress industry. A popular choice within the medical sector, memory foam is notable for its ability to adapt to the body’s contours before recovering its original shape.

As mentioned above, a key benefit of memory foam is its moldability. This property means that memory foam mattresses offer significant pressure relief, as they mould to the sleeper’s body and distribute body weight evenly. Memory foam mattresses are typically more dense, and therefore more supportive than their standard foam counterparts, making them a popular choice amongst those spending extended periods of time in bed.
